Panamanian Geisha Coffee
Panamanian Geisha coffee is one of the world’s most prized and expensive coffee varieties, known for its exceptional floral aroma, bright acidity, and complex flavors that often include jasmine, bergamot, tropical fruit, and tea-like notes. Originally from Ethiopia, the Geisha variety was introduced to Panama in the 1960s but gained international fame in the early 2000s when growers in the Boquete region, particularly Hacienda La Esmeralda, began cultivating it with meticulous care at high elevations.

Vision for a Coffee Shop in Panama
We are situated in a multicultural neighborhood where a middle-class population resides. At its heart lies an open-style recreational park frequented by adults, youth, and the elderly engaging in activities such as Yoga, Samba, Football, and Basketball. This community is home to six universities, five primary/secondary schools, and restaurants representing various cultures of the world.
Recognizing the diversity within such a compact area, there exists an opportunity to create a formal, comfortable, and avant-garde space where everyone can share their professional work, ideas, and dreams through wholesome meetings infused with Christian values.
The idea of the “Third Place” originates to a concept described by sociologist Ray Oldenberg, who described it as a social setting distinct from home (the “first place”) and work (the “second place”). The Third Place is a space where people gather regularly, build relationships, and engage in social interaction outside of their usual home and work environments. It’s typically characterized by its welcoming atmosphere, informal nature, and sense of community.

The “Third Place” aims to address the community’s need for a shared space where interdisciplinary ideas can be exchanged and where partners and even founders can meet to breathe life into new business projects. It also promotes personal and relational connections between members of our community and the members of our church, creating opportunities to share in life and, ultimately, the Gospel message of hope. We seek to break the post-Covid individualistic dynamics that have isolated many from social interaction and Christian values.

In Panama City, where Latino culture intersects with urban modernism, the Café embodies a concept deeply ingrained in the fabric of Panamanian society. Unlike in many Western cultures where hospitality is primarily expressed within the confines of one’s home, Panamanians have a penchant for socializing in public places, making the Third Place concept inherently contextual and culturally appropriate. By embracing this cultural norm, our café becomes more than just a business—it becomes a vital community hub where the ethos of hospitality is not only celebrated but actively cultivated. From the aesthetics of our space to the personalized customer service we provide, every aspect of the café reflects and resonates with the values and preferences of Panama City’s diverse and dynamic population, ensuring that it serves as a true beacon of connection, creativity, and camaraderie in the heart of the city.
